Hey guys - long time no see!
Some of you will remember that Mike Hyams had his kids running karts at JRP Speedway; some of you might have been out there in the rental karts and are familiar with the track. My son is now running karts with Tulsa Kart Club (www.tulsakartclub.org) at JRP. We just had a club meeting last weekend, and have gotten involved with the board of directors to figure out ways to grow the club.
As an R/C guy at heart, I look at the JRP track as a potentially very cool place to run an asphalt race, and that's a notion that has found favor with the rest of the management at TKC. In all truth, the idea is so obvious that I didn't even need to bring it up - the club President, Ron Pattison, mentioned the idea when he heard we used to race them somewhat actively.
The question is whether or not there would be interest in doing a track walk with us at JRP to figure out what other facilities, etc. would be needed to get cars on track. There's interest in doing something like a joint exhibition, as well as co-promoting our groups using HobbyTown as a location for parking lot racing where the TKC folks can display their karts and talk to people about the club.
TKC is open to making improvements to the track surface so that it could facilitate sedans - buggies/truggies/MT's could probably run on it as-is but there's at least one transition that would be rough as-is. When that was mentioned, Ron immediately indicated he had the materials and expertise to make those types of improvements. Ron is retired but he had a company that did road work, and some of the other members are also current/former construction businessmen.
Not sure who are officers any more, but whomever would like (Trashy?) can reach out to me here and we can figure out a time to talk more. We'd be happy to attend the next TORC meeting if there's room on the agenda. I think the networking opportunities and promotional opportunities would be great for both of our groups.
Thanks in advance,
Tadd
